The History Of Pet Foods

Progress comes with a price tag:

If we think about it, everything we have gained as a society, we have left something behind. We call this progress.
In the era of pet foods that were healthy for our pets. We replaced it with a commercial idea that if we used by products of the things we eat, we could sale it and make a profit, leading our pets into a guessing game for their health.
Take for instance the process of chickens for our dinner table. We now take the insides that are not fit for consumption and turn into dog and or cats foods for our pets.
This just doesn’t seem fair I feel.
In researching the past concerning domesticated animals, our loving pets have been so for over 15,000 years. Up until the 1930’s, they ate basically what we ate and maintained a very healthy existence.
When we sat down for dinner, what we had, they had. (Not saying we should cook them up a steak on the grill along side ours.)
Real pet food should be primarily real meat, a little vegetable and very little grain and or cereal
The whole concept of the pet food industry was created by wheat and grain companies thinking up this idea that all the rejected grain, wheat, cereal that they were not allowed to sale for human consumption could become a by product made into pet food. They also joined together with the meat industry, having the same problem with their rejected USDA approval.
So now we have this huge pet food industry supported by the veterinarian industry spending millions of dollars each year to promote.
But is it really promoting a healthy pet?
Before the 1930’s, (the beginning of the pet food industry), our pets lived long lives going up into the late teens.

All in all:

We want the best for our pets…they are indeed a family member. I would never prepare dinner for my family using products that are not directly approved for consumption by the USDA.
Nor do I feel you would.

In understanding the economy has an impacting force on what we can afford to feed our pets. As long as we make our best effort in getting back to giving our pets real wholesome foods that really contribute to their health. We are taking a step backwards in order to take two forward in the well being of our pets.
